My dishwasher/sink is backed up, can you help!?!!?!?

About a week ago my boyfriend noticed that kitchen sinks weren't draining very well, so he took a plunger to one of the sinks (side without a garbage disposal). After a few minutes of plunging water ran out of the dishwasher and onto the floor. Since then our dishwasher won't drain and keeps about an inch and a half of water on the bottom. We hadn't had issues with our dishwasher before this. We tried a mix of vinegar/maybe baking soda/hot water that his mom recommended and bought a snake and used it on the pipes (took all 25 feet of it). Now the two sink drains seems to be working better, but the dishwasher still won't drain. We've used cups and bowls to remove water from the dishwasher and every time it will just fill back up. What can we do?? We really don't want to pay $ for a plumber. (Who does??) If more information would help you help us, just let me know.

  1. Under your sink there should be a (black hose) from the dishwasher, you might try disconnecting it and making sure it is not plugged. If your sinks are draining OK then that tells me its in your discharge line from your d/w. If the line is not plugged then try running the dishwasher with the hose disconnected but in a bucket this will make sure the pump in the d/w has not gone out.
