Dishwasher water connect; Hot or Cold.?

The reason I ask is i heard newer dishwashers can be connected to the cold and the heating element will heat the water to save energy. I connected my old dishwasher (older & and used) to the cold but the water never got hot. So either the heater was broke or I needed to connect it to the hot; which I did eventually anyway. So now I have another dishwasher used 2000 GE Nautalist. So do I connect to hot or cold?

  1. Whether or not you have an energy efficient system you should tie the dishwasher to the HOT line. The dish washer has a thermostatic control and will only reheat the water to the temperature required.
  2. Hot water
  3. Definitely connect to the hot side. I've been repairing these things for many years and never heard of a unit that would heat cold water to a temp you could reasonably expect would get your dishes clean. The only heaters these things have in them are the heating elements that heat the air to dry the dishes after they're washed, and most people don't even use them for that. They just crack the door open at the top and let them air dry. Be sure to put a shut off valve on the connection line.
  4. alway's the hot side
