Dishwasher help?

My dishwasher just recently quit cleaning my dishes. I rinse the dishes off before they are put in the dishwasher. When they come out, they are still dirty. Any help? Can I run a cycle through an empty dishwasher? I have been washing dishes by hand and its hard to do that with a baby. Any cleaning ideas?

  1. Couple things to check.... 1. make sure the water lines aren't clogged--- is there water being distributed in the washer? 2. Make sure the debris trap is emptied out (its underneath the heating element in the bottom of most dishwashers.) 3. Run an empty dishwasher with just white vinegar in the soap trays. This will help clean out the dishwasher. 4. Make sure your garbage disposal is operational and not clogged (my dishwasher waste goes through the disposal...so if that isn't working or needs to be reset my dishwasher doesn't run properly.) Hopefully this will help narrow down/fix the issue.
  2. Look at the drain in the bottom of the dishwasher, you might need to clean it out. Run the dishwasher on the hottest cycle with a cup of vinegar. The vinegar should work, but it not, then try baking soda. Good luck!
  3. Perhaps your jets are stopped up. Run 2 cups of white vinegar through...
  4. Once a month I run an empty cycle with powdered drink mix inside the dispenser cups...! The citric acid in the powder keeps the lines clean and dissolves gook/grime! It's also really, really CHEAP. I use lemonade drink mix or orange! It also smells nice! I also clean a trap/filter on the top of my dishwasher.. It get nasty particles on it...! It's the "filter" or area where the steam comes out? I don't know if you have them... POP the cover off of that and that might be the problem as well. I clean mine with an old toothbrush....
