How do you get rid of dishwasher grime?

I have a fairly new dishwasher only 3 yrs old....we got a good model with double jetsprayers because we have 4 kids still living at home and have lots of dishes. :) Lately I have to practically wash them by hand BEFORE loading them in the dishwasher.....and even then, I STILL get what looks like gritty dirt in the bottom of my glasses! What IS that stuff? Is there a filter or something that needs to be cleaned out? Very frustrating. We DO have well water, but I've never seen that grime until it's went through the dishwasher. HELP?!!?

  1. yes most have a filter on them . call the 1-800 on it they us are usually good about helping. and are you using the water heating on the dishwasher your water may not be hot enough
  2. http://appliancequickfix.com/ I think has some good information on this.
  3. If it has a mini-garbage disposal built into it then the disposal screen in the dishwasher is most likely clogged. The water needs to pump through the screen and if it is clogged the water pressure from the spray arms will be very low.
  4. get rid of the dishwasher....to this day I sitill dont see why one cant simply use less water and do it in less time by simply washing dishes by hand....I feel i am in the twilight zone when I see a dishwasher question.... there is no use for them....they waste electricity use more water than if you did it your self....and take MORE time if you count all the time to load..etc......and your dishes come out cleaner if you hand wash!
