How can I keep steam from the dishwasher from ruining a laminate countertop?

Our (fairly new) dishwasher does not have a steam guard. The steam vent is near the top, and the moisture is beginning to warp our laminate countertop. I contacted the store, and this model does not include a steam guard, and no such part is available for it. We've pulled the dishwasher out as far as it can go. Right now, we're using a piece of aluminum foil to re-direct the steam each time we use it, but that is a hassle AND ends up creating a small pool of water on the floor (which was, of course, beginning to ruin the laminate flooring, so now we have to put a towel down on the floor along with the aluminum foil on the dishwasher). Any ideas?

  1. make sure the door is closed when you start it
  2. get a granite counter top its REALLY nice , everybody likes them it adds like double what it costs to the value of your house so when you sell , you get it back double
  3. Seal the steam vents with Caulk. There's really no reason why those vents are there other than aesthetics (the manufacturer does this to make it look like the dishwasher is working) The steam will naturally dissapate inside the washer.
  4. When we remodeled our kitchen, the contractor wrapped the laminate under the countertop, in addition to having it on the front edge and the top, but only where the dishwasher was. check the underside of your countertop and see if it has laminate on it, or if it's just bare wood / pressboard. You may need to have laminate installed on the underside of the countertop, going back 3 or 4 inches in depth, for the entire width of the dishwasher...
  5. the only thing i can think of would require sealing the steam vent ( never heard of one - i would assume a bad door seal and a poor salesman ) then drill a hole in the cabinet and running tubing to a safe location
  6. I coated the bottom edges of my countertop with polyurethane, and extra heavy around the dishwasher. All it takes is a little bit of moisture to ruin the laminate from beneath.
  7. stick a towel in between the dishwasher and counter. my grandma did it and it worked for her
  8. YOU MAY TRYING CUT BACK THE HEAT ---TEMPERTURE ...OR PUT A 6" WIDE STRIP ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE TOP..SCREWING UNDER NEATH OF THE COUNTER ABOUT 5'' OF THE STRIP BENDING UP AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE , THE LAST OUT SIDE INCH...THE REASON YOU HAVE WATER ON THE FLOOR IS THAT AL. FOIL IS TOO THIN AND WILL CRUMPLE --CONVERTING STEAM TO WATER BY POCKETING STEAM...SOMETHING LIKE SHEET-METAL WOULD WORK FOLDING BACK THE OUTSIDE EDGE SO AS NOT TO CUT SOMEONE....YOU COULD CALL A HEATING & AC COMPANY THAT STRIKES SHEET-METAL FOR DUCT WORK...THEY HAVE CRIMPERS FOR CLEAN CUT AND BENDING OR CALL A WHOLESALE DUCT MAKER...
