When pulling out a dishwasher, what all needs to be disconnected before proceeding?
A cable cord which attaches to the door spring has broken on our kitchenaid dishwasher. It looks as if I need to pull the machine out entirely in order to reattach the spring and nylon cables. Could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to do this? Thanks so much!

- You'll have to unbolt the machine from the floor. Disconnect the electrical connections after shutting off the circuit breaker. Then you have to shut off and disconnect the water supply and drain hose. Not all that hard actually. Biggest problem is usually accessing the necessary components.
- There are hundreds of dishwashers this is a generic instruction. If needed disconnect electricity, water supply & drain hose from washer. If the hose & electrical wire look long enough just pull the washer out a little. Use locking needle nose plier or a bent stiff wire to stretch the spring back into place. Again use loking plier on cable if needed.
- 1)Cut power(fuse or breaker) 2)Shut off water supply and disconnect supply line. 3)Remove the drain line(usually under kitchen sink. 4)Recheck power to be sure it's off and disconnect wiring. 5)Remove any fasteners that are attaching the machine to the floor or cabinetry. 6)Replace spring and cabling. 7)Do first five steps in reverse order! Good luck to you! ;-)=
- Unscrew the 2 screws anchoring the unit to the counter top. Bring up the leveling legs. The unit is on rollers, gently pull out from under the counter. Be cautious of the drain hose, power cord, and water supply line. If the water supply line is copper and too short, you will need to shut the valve located under the sink and detach from the dishwasher before removes from under the counter. Pull out slightly and be sure the power cord is long enough, whether hard wired or using the standard 110 plug. Slowly pull it out, if you wish, place a towel underneath when room permits to help prevent floor damage. Complete needed repairs from there.
- fwf has it nailed
- http://appliancequickfix.com/BTB.html has good information on dishwashers, but I hope that you are not trying to repair it,because if you cant figure that out, you wont be able to do anything else either.
