Is it possible to hook up a portable dishwasher to the drain under the sink?

I have a very small counter-top area and very few drawers/cupboards... I want to know if I bought a portable dishwasher if it would be possible to hook up the plumbing under the sink? I have room on the left of my kitchen, a few feet away from the sink/counter/cupboards.

  1. Sure is. You will need to replace at least one piece of your sink drain pipe, but this is relatively inexpensive and made of PVC so you don't need any massive pipe wrenches. Take the drain portion of your dishwasher hose to the store when you go and take a piece of your sink drain, (not the U trap on the bottom without a bucket underneath it) to Lowes or Home depot type of place. They will hand you what you need and if you know left from right, you can take care of it yourself. All of this assumes that you do not have a slow flowing drain in the kitchen. And I assume you are already getting your water form the same sink fittings.
  2. Probably you can...first read your owners manual to see if your model is a "convert-able model" if it is,,there may be an adapter kit from the manufacturer. If not,,fittings, hoses adapters are available that will allow you to make connections. Caution should be followed when hooking up the drain to prevent siphoning of the machine and to prevent drain water from backing up into your dishwasher. Good Luck.
  3. You would lose the portable feature by doing so.
  4. Yes you can but most codes require a dish washer to go through a disposal.Check
  5. No. By lowering the hose enough to go under the sink, it would drain the water out while operating. They are made to put the drain hose into the sink while you are using them so I don't know why you want a permanent connection.
