Dishwasher dirty water in sink?
We have an OLD dishwasher and a sink with a non-working garbage disposal. I did not think the two were connected but recently we noticed dirty dishwasher water coming up into the sink - yuck! - during the cycle. We don't use the sink anymore because the disposal actually leaks. Dishes still seem clean, dishwasher otherwise seems to be working fine. What's going on? What do I need to do?

- Sounds like your trap is getting plugged, unplug it.
- The discharge for the dishwasher usually goes into the disposal, the smell is probably coming from the drain trap try to put bleach and ice in the garbage disposal and turn it on.
- Remove the old disposal and re-pipe where it existed. At this time clean out your 'p' trap under the sink. All should be better then.
- Your dishwasher drains into your drain pipes under your sink. If there is a clog in either the pipes (probably P-trap, which is the U-type bend in the piping) or possibly the garbage disposal. Look for a small, flexible hose under your sink. It most likely goes into the side of your garbage disposal (near the top). This is the drain line for the dishwasher. If your garbage disposal is leaking, there's a chance that it leaks when your dishwasher drains as well. If you have no intentions on using the garbage disposal again, you may want to consider just taking it out so it doesn't gather "gunk" in it. You can get a dishwasher drain "Y" adapter so your dishwasher drains directly into the pipes instead of through the dishwasher. Assuming you have all plastic or PVC pipes, this is a fairly easy job. <EDIT>: While you're under the sink, check where the garbage disposal is leaking. If it's a cracked drainpipe, or if it's leaking at a joint, just fix that and you have your garbage disposal back! If it's a cracked casing, you may be out of luck. If you do end up taking out the garbage disposal, the pipe you need to put in is called a "dishwasher tailpiece."
- sounds like dispoal is hooked up to dishwaser and it is clogged up and not allowing water to drain from sink
